Things That Grind My Gears - 2026 Edition
I purposefully unplugged from this blog for over a year. Part of the reason was that I unplugged from ALL news, and part of the reason is that I've been facing some nasty medical issues that have had me in constant pain. Well, I am finally back!
A new list of things that really grind my gears has cropped up and so on with the venting!
First, I am pretty tired of hearing things such as, "Trump said he would keep us out of forever wars" but the started one." "Trump said he would bring the cost of living down on Day 1" but things have gone skyrocketing up." "Trump said his planned ballroom addition to the White House would be funded by donations and wouldn't cost the taxpayer one red cent" but we find out now that its costing billions of taxpayer dollars." And the list goes on and on and on... Well, we ALL knew that Trump was a habitual liar from his first go-round in the White House. That he cares only for himself. That the Trump Crime Family is beyond contemptable. That he is suffering from the ravages of aging (i.e., dementia). And the list goes on and on and on... So people who voted for him (and especially the majority of people who didn't vote at all) have absolutely no legitimate reason to bitch & gripe. And those who didn't vote for him should have gotten more people out to vote, so they also bear the consequences and have no legitimate right to bitch & gripe. We all knew what his man so there are absolutely no surprises at what you're getting. So stop complaining and suck it up for God's sake!
People who profess to be "good Christians" who support the Trump agenda for illegal aliens really piss me off. Personally, I feel that we should not be allowing illegal aliens to remain in this country. We do need some aliens to do the jobs that Americans won't do, such as low-paying farm work. So we should carefully issue visas to a controlled number of non-Americans to do the work needed to be done, after which they return to their home country. So I agree that we need to remove illegal aliens, especially those with criminal backgrounds. But it is the way in which we go about removing the illegal aliens that irks the hell out of me. To all those "good Christians" who agree with the way in which the current administration is going about identifying and removing illegal aliens, just ask yourself one simple question: "What would Jesus do?" My religious upbringing tells me that Jesus wouldn't be treating people the way this administration does. Folks, if you let in illegal aliens, then you have a responsibility to treat them humanely. And yes, this includes nourishment and medical care until they can be humanely repatriated to their own home country, THAT is what Jesus would do.
Going to church doesn't make you a good Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car. You have to live the tenants of your religion all of the time, not just when it is convenient.
On the topic of abortion: I firmly believe that abortion is a very personal matter between the woman bearing the embryo and the man who inseminated the woman. Period. It is NOT up to the government to dictate whether or not they may elect to abort the embryo, and it sure as hell is NOT the purview of anyone else to impose their religious beliefs on that couple. If the couple wishes to have religious guidance, they can bring into their discussion the religious leader(s) of their choosing. Not my choosing. Not your choosing. Not the govermnent's choosing. If my wife and I were facing a pregnancy I do not know whether or not I would want her to have an abortion. It all depends on our situation in life at that particular time. But I do know that it would be our decision, and no one else's, on whether she has an abortion or not.
The thing with these religious zealots is that they don't want a woman to have an abortion even if she does not have the financial security to raise a child, but they also don't want the government assisting her via food stamps, housing and utilities, etc. If the government forces a woman to have a child that she cannot afford to raise, then the government should pick up the tab until that child becomes an adult.
The greatest internal threat to democracy are the religious zealots who wish to impose their beliefs onto everyone else.
The next time you go to vote, or find out that a neighbor is receiving government assistance that they need, or the government is taking away rights of it's citizens, just ask yourself that simple little question: What would Jesus do?
